How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Joseph Owens ⚭ China (Chiney) Parton
Married 30 January 1852, Whitley County, Kentucky; she was 16 and he 19, both born in Whitley County S810 · he died before 1880 · she, a widow born Kentucky, was in Williamson County, Texas, in 1880 S798. 🆕 Probable parents of Charles W. Owens Probable confirm or correct →: his 1939 certificate names Joseph Owens and China Pardon S780 and he was with his widowed mother China in 1880 S798. What is weak: the certificate's informant was his widow; the register gives the year only by a ditto mark and a Tennessee compiled index dates the marriage 1853 in Claiborne County, Tennessee; the register has Joseph born in Kentucky; and the certificate's “Arkansas” birthplaces for both conflict with 1880's Tennessee and Kentucky. Added 27 September 2026.

Charles W. Owens ⚭ Alice Rachael Walden (Waldon in the tree)
9 Mar 1863 – 6 Jul 1939 Austin · she 1867–1958. Both named as Medie's parents on her 1954 Texas death certificate S70. 🆕 His own 1939 death certificate says born Arkansas S780, as do the 1900 and 1910 censuses; Medie's certificate and the 1930 census say Texas, so Arkansas has the weight. It names his parents as Joseph Owens and China Pardon, both born Arkansas (🆕 the 1880 census, taken with China, a widow, in the house, gives Tennessee for him and Kentucky for her S798) Probable confirm or correct → — his widow was the informant, so the line goes one step further only as probable; 🆕 their marriage is now found, Chiney Parton, 16, and Joseph Owens, 30 January 1852, Whitley County, Kentucky (the register's year is only a ditto mark; a Tennessee index says 1853) S810 (see G5). They married on 7 October 1883 in Travis County S782 and were farming in Lampasas County in 1910 S783. Her certificate gives her birth as 14 September 1867 at Waco and names her father, Wm. Mathis Waldon S781. 🆕 The Austin city directories place them at 1912 E. 2nd in 1929, when he was a huckster, and at 808 Clermont, the house he died in, in 1930–31, when he was a peddler; a Wm (Katie) Owens and an Edw Owens lived there too, William probably their son and Edward not yet identified S807.

Medie / "Madie R" Owens
28 Sep 1887 Salado, Texas – 28 Jul 1954, her certificate filed in Travis County; a practical nurse, widowed, dying as Stobaugh S70 · m. (1) Thomas Walton Caffey Sr 1904, (2) John William Stobaugh 1934. ⚠️ Social Security recorded her as "MEDIE STOBAUGH", her second married name — not a different woman and not an error.
Confirmed
Her maiden name was the soft joint until 16 September 2026. Her own death
certificate gives it — Owens — and names both her parents
S70, so it no longer rests on FindAGrave contributor
data. ⚠️ What is still open is the Stobaugh husband's given name, and the 1904
Caffey–Owens marriage record, which would date the first marriage: the pedigree file puts
it at 25 September 1904 in Bastrop, the Caffey line note at Bell County, and
neither is a record yet.

Medie Owens
TexasConfirmed1887–1954 · maiden name Owens, on her death certificate
- Born 28 September 1887 at Salado; died 28 July 1954 at Austin State Hospital, of pneumonia, with senility and debility, her certificate filed in
Travis County, widowed, occupation practical nurse, dying under her second
married name Stobaugh S70; buried Salado
Cemetery in the same plot as her first husband S34
- 🆕 In 1900 she was 12, at home at Manor, Travis County, with her parents Charles W. and Alice R. Owens and six brothers and sisters: William W., Epper L., Charles E., Mary P., Annie H. and Robert G. The enumerator wrote her as “Rachel A”, born September 1887 S661. With her death certificate, that puts both parents on records; they are now Confirmed. added 26 September 2026.
- In 1940, as Medie Stobaugh, she was widowed, a practical nurse in Austin, with her son Thomas Caffey, 16, and her stepson Earle Stobaugh, 18 S219
- In 1944, as Mrs. J. W. Stobaugh, she swore to her son Howard Lee Caffey's birth S233. In 1950 she was at 2117 Clifton, Austin, widowed, with her mother Allice Owens, 83 S231
- ⚠️ An apparent conflict, resolved. The NUMIDENT names T.W. Jr's mother
"Medie Stobaugh"; FindAGrave calls her "Medie Owens Caffey"
S33S34.
Not two women and not an error — the SSA recorded the surname she bore when her
application was filed, which by then was her second married name. She married
John William Stobaugh in 1934, four years after Thomas Walton Caffey Sr. died.
More · 2 further facts
- So Owens is her maiden name on a state record
Confirmed. Her 1954 Texas death
certificate, read from the image on 16 September 2026, names her father
Charles Owens (born Texas) and her mother Alice Walden (born Tennessee); the informant was the hospital, so the 1900 census's Arkansas and Texas birthplaces are preferred
S70. Until that day it rested on FindAGrave
contributor data and on the fact that it explains the Stobaugh surname.
- FindAGrave carries the same parents as Charles W. Owens (1863–1939) and
Alice Rachael Waldon (1867–1958)
S34. The names are now on a certificate;
🆕 the dates are now on their own death certificates as well: Charles, born 9 March 1863 in Arkansas, died 6 July 1939 S780; Alice, born 14 September 1867 at Waco, died 8 August 1958, with Medie as the informant S781. Alice's certificate spells her father Waldon, the memorial's spelling; Medie's says Walden. Charles's own certificate and the 1910 census S783 both say Arkansas, so the “Texas” on Medie's certificate is outweighed (added 27 September 2026).
What is still open — the given name of the Stobaugh husband, and the
1904
Caffey–Owens marriage record, which would date the first marriage. The pedigree file
puts that marriage at 25 September 1904 in
Bastrop County and the Caffey line note
at
Bell County, c.1904; neither is a record yet. The death record once named here
as the closer has been obtained — it is
S70 — and it was filed in
Travis County, not
Bell.

Alice Walden
ConfirmedKristin's great-grandmother · 1867–1958
- Research status: CONFIRMED as Medie Owens's mother. Medie's 1954 Texas death certificate gives her mother's maiden name as Alice Walden S70, and in 1900 Alice R. Owens, wife of Charles W. Owens, had a daughter born September 1887 S661. Confirmed 26 September 2026.
- Born 14 September 1867 at Waco, Texas, by her own death certificate Confirmed S781; the 1900 census gave September 1866, and the 1870 census has her aged 3; she had borne nine children, seven living S661. The death certificate says Tennessee, from hospital paperwork, and is the weaker of the two S70
- In 1950, as Allice Owens, 83, she lived with Medie at 2117 Clifton, Austin S231. FindAGrave gives her as Alice Rachael Waldon, 1867–1958 S34; Walden or Waldon is still unsettled
- 🆕 Her father was Wm. Mathis Waldon, by her death certificate, informed by her daughter Medie S781. In 1870 Alice R., 3, was in the Dallas County household of William Waldon, 28, born Missouri, and Susan, 24, born Texas, with Joana Walden, 67, born Kentucky S801; Susan is her probable mother, Susan (Voshery) Waldon Probable confirm or correct →, but the census states no relationships and the certificate gives the mother as unknown. She died on 8 August 1958 at 804 South 1st, Austin, and was buried at Youngs Prairie S781. added 26 September 2026
- 🆕 A Texas marriage index has Susan Voshery marrying William M. Walden on 23 December 1866 in San Augustine County, nine months before Alice was born S852 Probable confirm or correct →. It is an index only, and it supports Susan as her mother without naming Alice. added 28 September 2026.
- Married C. W. Owens on 7 October 1883 in Travis County, as Alice Rachell Waldon Confirmed S782; by 1910 she had borne ten children, seven living, and the family was in Lampasas County S783. added 26 September 2026
- 🆕 The Austin city directories list her with Charles W. Owens at 1912 E. 2nd in 1929 and at 808 Clermont in 1930–31, where Wm (Katie) and Edw Owens also lived Confirmed S807. added 27 September 2026
- 🆕 The 1880 census of Travis County, read from the image, lists Alice, 13, at school, as the daughter of William Waldrin, 37, a farmer born Missouri, with his second wife P. P., 23, and three young children S916. With her death certificate, that confirms Wm. Mathis Waldon as her father Confirmed. added 28 September 2026.

Charles Owens
ArkansasConfirmedKristin's great-grandfather · 1863–1939
- Research status: CONFIRMED as Medie Owens's father. Her 1954 Texas death certificate names her father Charles Owens S70, and the 1900 census of Manor, Travis County, has Charles W. Owens and his wife Alice R. with a daughter born September 1887, the month and year of Medie's birth S661. Confirmed 26 September 2026.
- Born March 1863, Arkansas, by the 1900 census, which also gives both his parents as born in Arkansas S661. ⚠️ Medie's death certificate says born Texas, but its informant was the hospital, not the family, so the census is preferred S70. 🆕 His own 1939 death certificate, informed by his wife, also says Arkansas, and gives his birth as 9 March 1863 S780; so does the 1910 census S783. added 26 September 2026.
- Died 6 July 1939 at Austin, a produce salesman of 808 Clermont; buried at Youngs Prairie, Elgin Confirmed S780. On his FindAGrave memorial as Charles W. Owens (1863–1939) S34
- 🆕 His parents, as his death certificate gives them: Joseph Owens and China Pardon, both born in Arkansas Probable confirm or correct → S780. The evidence is that one certificate; what is weak is that its informant was his widow, not a parent, and the spellings may be Chaney or Chana, Pardue or Purdon. 🆕 The 1880 census names China as his mother, a widow born in Kentucky, and gives his father's birthplace as Tennessee S798; it was taken with her in the house, so on the birthplaces it outweighs the certificate. Joseph is still named only by the certificate; an Arkansas marriage of about 1855–62 would settle it. added 26 September 2026 🆕 Their marriage is found: Chiney Parton, 16, of Whitley County, Kentucky, married Joseph Owens there on 30 January 1852 (the register's year is only a ditto mark; a Tennessee index says 1853) S810 See Joseph Owens & China Parton. added 27 September 2026
- 🆕 A second daughter's 1968 Texas death certificate also names her parents as Charles Owens and Alice Walden S811. added 27 September 2026
- Married Alice Rachell Waldon on 7 October 1883 in Travis County; the licence was issued on 22 September Confirmed S782. In 1910 they were farming in Lampasas County, married 26 years, with ten children born and seven living S783. added 26 September 2026
- A farm labourer at Manor in 1900, married 16 years, with seven children living: William W., Medie (written “Rachel A”), Epper L., Charles E., Mary P., Annie H. and Robert G. S661
- Husband of Alice Walden. The FamilySearch tree's dates for him, c.1845–1909, are wrong for this man and are no longer used S12
- 🆕 In 1880, aged 17, he was in Williamson County, Texas, with his mother China Owen, 41, a widow born in Kentucky, and his brothers and sisters Wm. A. J., Joseph C., Alice, Levi A. and Edgar Confirmed S798. The census gives his father's birthplace as Tennessee. added 27 September 2026
- 🆕 In the Austin city directory for 1929 he is Chas W. Owens, with Alice, a huckster at 1912 E. 2nd; in 1930–31 a peddler at 808 Clermont, the house he died in, with Wm (Katie) and Edw Owens at the same address Confirmed S807. added 27 September 2026
- 🆕 Probably him in 1870: C. W., 8, born Arkansas, in the household of the widow(?) E. Owens, 43, a farmer born Mississippi, in Bayou Mason Township, Chicot County, Arkansas, with W. F., M. J., M. J. and S. A. Probable confirm or correct → S1065. Evidence: his initials, age and Arkansas birth. Weak: initials only, no relationships stated, and his mother in 1880 was China, 41, born Kentucky S798. Probably him too in 1920: Richard(?) W. Owens, 56, born Arkansas, owning his home at Elgin, Bastrop County, with his wife Alice R., 53, born Texas to a Missouri-born father Probable confirm or correct → S1066. Evidence: Alice’s name, age and parentage, and his age and birthplace. Weak: the enumerator wrote Richard, not Charles. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

Joseph Owens & China Parton
ProbableEvidence: Charles W. Owens's 1939 death certificate names Joseph Owens and China Pardon; in 1880 he lived with his widowed mother China Owen; the Kentucky register records Chiney Parton, 16, marrying Joseph Owens in Whitley County on 30 January 1852 (year by ditto mark). Weak or missing: Only the widow-informed certificate names Charles with both parents; a Tennessee index dates the marriage 1853 in Claiborne County; the certificate's Arkansas birthplaces conflict with the 1880 census. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Charles W. Owens's parents · married 1852 · she c. 1836 – after 1880
- Research status: PROBABLE as the parents of Charles W. Owens Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: Charles's 1939 death certificate names his parents as Joseph Owens and China Pardon S780; in 1880, aged 17, he lived with his mother China Owen, 41, a widow born in Kentucky S798; and Chiney Parton, 16, of Whitley County, Kentucky, married Joseph Owens there on 30 January 1852 S810. What is weak: no one record names Charles with both parents but his death certificate, whose informant was his widow; the register's year is only a ditto mark from the page's one dated row, and a Tennessee compiled index gives the marriage as 30 January 1853 in Claiborne County, Tennessee S810; and the certificate has both parents born in Arkansas, where the marriage register has Kentucky and the 1880 census Tennessee for Joseph and Kentucky for China S798. Approved by Earl 27 September 2026.
- Married 30 January 1852 (or 1853), Whitley County, Kentucky; she was 16 and he 19, both living in and born in Whitley County, so she was born about 1836 and he about 1833 S810.
- Joseph had died by June 1880, when China was a widow in Williamson County, Texas, with Charles and his brothers and sisters Wm. A. J., Joseph C., Alice, Levi A. and Edgar S798. Charles was born in Arkansas in March 1863 S780, so the family moved from Kentucky to Arkansas and then to Texas. Joseph's own birth and death are not yet found.
- 🆕 His father: probably C. J. Owens Probable confirm or correct →. In 1850 Joseph, 16, a laborer born in Tennessee, was in the Claiborne County, Tennessee, household of C. J. Owens, 40, a wagonmaker, and Nancy, 33, with Isaiah V., Gilbert B. and Boston W. S843. What is weak: the census states no relationships, and no record names C. J. as his father. added 28 September 2026.
- 🆕 Her parents: probably Jackson Parton and Catharine Parton Probable confirm or correct →. In 1850 China, 14, born Kentucky, was in their Whitley County, Kentucky, household with America, Rachael, Manuel, Nancy and William S844. What is weak: the census states no relationships, and no record names her parents or Catharine's maiden name. added 28 September 2026.

ProbableEvidence: In the 1850 Claiborne County, Tennessee, census, read from the image, Joseph Owens, 16, is in the household of C. J. Owens, 40, a wagonmaker; Joseph's age fits the groom of the 1852 Whitley County marriage to Chiney Parton, which is also indexed in Claiborne County. Weak or missing: The 1850 census states no relationships and no document names C. J. as Joseph's father; the tree's 'Charles Joseph', Virginia birth and 1862 death are on no record read. In the 1850 census of Claiborne County, Tennessee, read from the image, Joseph Owens, 16, a laborer born in Tennessee, is in the household of C. J. Owens, 40, a wagonmaker born in Tennessee S843. Joseph's age fits the 19-year-old Joseph Owens who married Chiney Parton in neighbouring Whitley County, Kentucky, in January 1852, a marriage also indexed in Claiborne County S810. What is weak: the 1850 census states no relationships, and no document names C. J. as Joseph's father Probable confirm or correct →
- Probable father of Joseph Owens, of Joseph Owens & China Parton; grandfather of Charles W. Owens
- In 1850, at Claiborne County, Tennessee (enumerated 25 October): C. J. Owens, 40, wagonmaker; Nancy Owens, 33, born North Carolina; Joseph, 16; Isaiah V., 11; Gilbert B., 9; and Boston W., 7, all born Tennessee S843
- Born about 1810, Tennessee, by his 1850 age S843. An online tree's given names “Charles Joseph”, its Virginia birthplace and its death on 9 July 1862 in Dickson County, Tennessee, are on no record read; the page gives only the initials C. J.

Jackson Parton
ProbableEvidence: In the 1850 Whitley County, Kentucky, census, read from the image, China, 14, is in the household of Jackson Parton, 37; she fits the Chiney Parton who married Joseph Owens there in January 1852, and China is a rare name. She fits the Chiney Parton, 16, who married Joseph Owens in Whitley County on 30 January 1852 S810, and China is a rare given name. - In 1850, District No. 2, Whitley County, Kentucky (enumerated 12 September): Jackson Parton, 37, farmer, real estate $300; Catharine, 37; China, 14; America, 12; Rachael, 10; Manuel, 8; Nancy, 6; and William, 4, all born Kentucky S844
- Born about 1813, Kentucky, by his 1850 age S844. An online tree's “Andrew” Jackson, its birthplace “Knox, Pike” (two different counties) and its death in 1898 at Glen Rose, Somervell County, Texas, are on no record read
- 🆕 By 1860 the family had probably moved to Texas: A. J. Pardon, 43, farmer, born Kentucky, and Catherine, 43, lived near Sherman, Grayson County, with M., 18, John, 12, Sarah E., 9, and the Texas-born W. J., 6, and Silvester, 2; America A., 21, and her husband David A. Seaton shared the dwelling Probable confirm or correct → S986. Evidence: M. and America A. fit Manuel and America of 1850 S844, and Pardon is the spelling on China's grandson's 1939 certificate S780. Weak: the ages rose only six years in ten, and no record read expands “A. J.”. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
- 🆕 Probably him in 1840: Jackson Parton, 20–29, in Knox County, Kentucky, with a woman of 20–29 and three girls under 5 Probable confirm or correct → S1006. Catharine Parton
ProbableEvidence: In the 1850 Whitley County, Kentucky, census, read from the image, Catharine, 37, is listed second in Jackson Parton's household with China, 14. Probable mother of China Parton · born about 1813
- Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. In the 1850 census of Whitley County, Kentucky, read from the image, Catharine, 37, born Kentucky, is listed second in Jackson Parton's household, with China, 14 S844; she was about 23 when China was born. What is weak: the census states no relationships, and no record names her as China's mother Probable confirm or correct →
- Probable mother of China Parton, of Joseph Owens & China Parton; probable wife of Jackson Parton
- Born about 1813, Kentucky, by her 1850 age S844. An online tree makes her Catherine “Snuffer Sowder”, born 28 March 1818 in Whitley County, died 1896 at Glen Rose, Texas: none of that is on a record read. Sowder households, among them Polly Sowder, 66, lived next door in 1850 S844, which makes Sowder plausible but does not prove it
- 🆕 In 1860, probably as Catherine, 43, born Kentucky, she was in A. J. Pardon's household near Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, with M., 18, John, 12, Sarah E., 9, W. J., 6, and Silvester, 2, and with America A., 21, and David A. Seaton Probable confirm or correct → S986. Evidence: M. and America A. fit Manuel and America of 1850 S844. Susan (Voshery) Waldon
ProbableEvidence: In the 1870 Dallas County census, read from the image, Susan, 24, is in William Waldon's household with Alice R., 3; a Texas marriage index has Susan Voshery marrying William M. Walden on 23 December 1866, nine months before Alice's birth. Weak or missing: The census states no relationships, Alice's own death certificate gives her mother as 'Unknown', and the marriage and maiden name rest on an index only. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Probable mother of Alice Walden · born about 1846
- Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. In the 1870 census of Dallas County, Texas, read from the image, Susan, 24, keeping house, born Texas, is in William Waldon's household with Alice R., 3 S801, and a Texas marriage index has Susan Voshery marrying William M. Walden on 23 December 1866 in San Augustine County, nine months before Alice was born S852. What is weak: the census states no relationships, Alice's own death certificate gives her mother as “Unknown” S781, and the marriage and the maiden name rest on an index only Probable confirm or correct →
- Probable mother of Alice Walden; probable wife of William Mathis Waldon, Alice's father by her death certificate and the 1880 census S916 S781
- Born about 1846, Texas, by her 1870 age S801. Indexes of the 1850 and 1860 San Augustine County censuses list a Susan Voshury or Voschery, aged 5 and 14; they have not been read. An online tree's spelling “Voshay” and its death in 1870 are unsupported: she was alive on 28 September 1870
- 🆕 Probably her in 1850: Susan, 5, born Texas, in the San Augustine County household of John Voshary, 40, with Mary, 26, born Tennessee, Nancy, 12, Anthony, 8, Greenbury, 3, and John, 2 months Probable confirm or correct → S1002. Evidence: the surname, her age, and the county of her 1866 marriage S852. Weak: 1850 states no relationships, and Mary is too young to be Nancy's mother, so John is her probable father but her mother is not known. Know more? - 🆕 Probably her in 1860: Susan, 14, born Texas, in the San Augustine household of John Voshery, 50, a farmer born Mississippi, and Mary, 35, born Tennessee, with Nancy, 22, Mary, 19, Anthony, 16, Greenberry, 11, John, 10, and Margaret, 6 Probable confirm or correct → S1070. Evidence: the rare surname, her age, and the same household as 1850 S1002, ten years on. Weak: the census states no relationships, and Mary, 35, is too young to be Nancy’s mother, so John is her probable father but her mother is not known. Know more? Wm. Mathis Waldon
ConfirmedFather of Alice Walden · born about 1842, Missouri
- Research status: CONFIRMED as Alice Walden's father — her own 1958 Texas death certificate, read from the image, names her father as Wm. Mathis Waldon S781, and the 1880 census of Travis County, Texas, which states relationships and was read from the image, lists Alice, 13, at school, born Texas, her father born Missouri, as the daughter of William Waldrin, 37, a farmer born Missouri S916. Confirmed 28 September 2026
- Father of Alice Walden. Probable husband of Susan (Voshery) Waldon Probable confirm or correct →: a Texas marriage index has William M. Walden marrying Susan Voshery on 23 December 1866 in San Augustine County S852. See the Owens & Walden line
- In 1870 William Waldon, 28, a farmer born Missouri, was in Precinct 1, Dallas County, with Susan, 24, and Alice R., 3 S801; FamilySearch's index of the same census agrees S918. That census states no relationships
- In 1880 his wife was P. P., 23, born Arkansas, and the household had John, 5, Edward M., 2, and Sarah, 4 months S916. Palistine Waldon, widow of Wm. Waldon, born 17 May 1857 in Arkansas, died at De Leon, Comanche County, on 23 April 1934; the informant was Mrs. S. A. Murdock of De Leon S917. Her age and birthplace fit the 1880 wife. This certificate is about his widow, not about Alice, and only supports the rest
- Born about 1842 in Missouri, by his 1870 age; his 1880 age gives about 1843. The certificate spells the middle name Mathis; the family tree's “Mathias” and its birth on 22 February 1844 at Sarcoxie, Missouri, come from Find a Grave alone and are not published here as fact. He died 2 February 1920 in Fisher County, Texas, by his widow's sworn pension application S979; the town, Roby, is on his death certificate S1001
- 🆕 In 1900 W. M. Waldon, 57, born in February 1843 in Missouri, farmed his own land at Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas, with his wife P. P., 43, born in Arkansas; they had been married 26 years, which points to a marriage about 1874 (worked out from the census, not a recorded date) Confirmed S972. added 29 September 2026
- 🆕 His widow, Prissila Waldon, 63, born in Polk County, Arkansas, applied for a Texas Confederate widow's pension at Girard, Kent County, on 31 March 1920. She swore that William Mathewis Waldon died 2 February 1920 in Fisher County, Texas, and that he had drawn Texas Confederate pension no. 9421 Confirmed S979. She also swore that they married on 18 July 1894 in Scott County, Arkansas Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: her sworn statement. Weak: P. P. was already his wife in 1880 S916 and the 1900 census says married 26 years S972, and no record read names Prissila as P. P. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
- 🆕 His Texas death certificate, read from the image, names him W. M. Walton: he died at Roby, Fisher County, on 2 February 1920, aged 77 years 11 months, born 22 February 1842 in Missouri, married, farming, his father born in Tennessee, and was buried at Roby the same day Confirmed S1001. The certificate's 1842 agrees with his 1870 age; Find a Grave's 1844 does not. added 29 September 2026
- 🆕 In January 1920 he was at Roby, Fisher County, aged 78, with his wife Paleshine, 65, and a granddaughter, Estelle Wells Confirmed S1040. added 29 September 2026
- 🆕 In September 1850 he was William M., 8, at school, in the household of James Waldon, 48, a farmer born in South Carolina, and Joanna, 36, born in Kentucky, in Jackson Township, Jasper County, Missouri. He had sisters Susan C., Nancy A. and Rachel T. and a baby brother, John L. Confirmed S1120. This is the first record that names a father. Joanna’s age does not fit the 67 given in 1870, and his own later censuses give his father’s birthplace as Tennessee.
- 🆕 In 1910 he was William Waldon, 67, a teamster in Mason County, Texas, in his second marriage, which had lasted 36 years. With him were his wife Phisilla, 53, born in Arkansas, mother of nine children with eight living, their sons Robert S. and Charles G., and Tempie P., 5 Confirmed S1121. Phisilla’s age and birthplace fit Palistine Waldon (born 1857, Arkansas). A marriage of about 1874 means Susan Voshery had died or left by then.

- S70Media Owens Stobaugh — Texas death certificate, 28 July 1954. Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, state file no. 36634, Travis County; Texas, U.S., Death Certificates, 1903–1982 (Ancestry collection 2272). Read on the certificate image 16 September 2026. Born 28 September 1887, Salado, Texas; occupation practical nurse; father Charles Owens, born Texas; mother Alice Walden, born Tennessee. This certificate settles a maiden name and adds two ancestors in one line. It confirms Owens as her maiden name rather than a tree's assumption, and it is the only record on this page that names her parents. ⚠️ The certificate spells her mother Walden; the family tree carries the same woman as Alice Rachael Waldon. The spelling is unsettled and both forms are left standing here rather than one being chosen quietly.

W.”, Travis County, 6 July 1939, certificate 71392 (Ancestry record 6218014, read 27 September 2026). His own certificate, informed by his widow, gives Arkansas, as do the 1900 and 1910 censuses; his daughter Medie's certificate and the 1930 census say Texas. The parents' names are secondhand and the spellings may be Chaney/Chana and Pardue/Purdon; no record of the couple has been read. Collection: Texas, U.S., Death Certificates.

Settles her birth year (1867, not 1866) and birthplace (Texas, not the Tennessee on Medie's certificate). The 1870 Dallas County census has Alice R., 3, with William Waldon, 28, born Missouri, and Susan, 24; Susan as her mother is not yet on any record that states a relationship. Collection: Texas, U.S., Death Certificates.

- S7981880 U.S. census, Williamson County, Texas, ED 157, dwelling 29: China Owen household. Ancestry record 11746866. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 27 September 2026. Confirmed China Owen, 41, widow, born Kentucky; her son Charles, 17, born Arkansas, his father born Tennessee; and Charles's brothers and sisters Wm. A. J., 25, a wagoner (with his wife M. Eliza, 21), Joseph C., 15, Alice, 12, Levi A., 10, and Edgar, 5. Taken with China in the house, so its birthplaces for the parents (Tennessee and Kentucky) outweigh the 1939 certificate's “Arkansas” for both (S780). Collection: 1880 United States Federal Census.
- S8011870 U.S. census, Precinct 1, Dallas County, Texas, p. 259, dwelling 1664: William Waldon household. Ancestry record 14464669. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. The 1929 index reads “912 E 2d”; the page has 1912. William is probably their son William W. (1900 census, S661); Edward is not identified, and the directory states no relationships. Collection: U.S., City Directories, 1822–1995.
- S810Kentucky marriage register, Whitley County: Joseph Owens and Chiney Parton, 30 January 1852. Ancestry record 4192 (roll 994058). Image examined, read 27 September 2026 (image KYVR_994058-0164). Probable Joseph Owens, 19, and Chiney Parton, 16, both single, living in and born in Whitley County, Kentucky, married “Jany 30th”. The year is a ditto mark: the only year on the page is “August 22nd 1852” in the first row, and the rows are out of date order, so the page is a compiled return and the year may be 1853. A Tennessee compiled index (Ancestry record 1034394) has China Parton and Joseph Owens married on 30 January 1853 in Claiborne County, Tennessee, which borders Whitley; the day and month agree, the year does not. Collection: Kentucky, U.S., Marriage Records, 1852–1914.

Confirmed Enumerated 7–8 June 1880: William Waldrin, 37, farmer, born Missouri; P. P., wife, 23, born Arkansas; Alice, daughter, 13, at school, born Texas, father born Missouri; John, son, 5; Edward M., son, 2; Sarah, daughter, 4 months. Probable William Waldon, born about 1842, Missouri, with Susan and Alice R. Waldon and Joana, Nancy, Lewis and Phaney E. Walden. An index of the same census page as S801; it states no relationships. FamilySearch's index of Alice's 1958 certificate is the same record as S781 and is not counted again.
- S9721900 U.S. census — Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas, ED 6, sheet 15A, dwelling 236. Ancestry record 78949697. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed W. M. Waldon, head, born February 1843, 57, in Missouri (parents born Missouri), a farmer who owned his farm, married 26 years; P. P., his wife, born May 1857, 43, in Arkansas; and five children born in Texas between 1881 and 1895. The wife's birth month, year and state match Palistine Waldon's death certificate (S917) and P. P., 23, in 1880 (S916). “Married 26 years” points to a marriage about 1874; that date is worked out from the census, not stated as a date. The children's initials were not read with confidence and are not given. Image 4111937_00684.
- S979Texas Confederate widow's pension application (Form B), Kent County, sworn 31 March 1920 — Mrs. Prissila Waldon, widow's file 36536. Ancestry record 1410673. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed Mrs. Prissila Waldon, 63, born in Polk County, Arkansas, 43 years in Texas, 9 in the county, post office Girard, Texas, swore that her husband, William Mathewis Waldon, died on 2 February 1920 in Fisher County, Texas, and that he had drawn Texas Confederate pension no. 9421. She also swore that they married on 18 July 1894 in Scott County, Arkansas. The widow is a first-hand informant for the death, and the date matches Find a Grave. The town, Roby, is still Find a Grave only. The 1894 marriage date is her statement and is not settled: P. P. was already his wife in 1880 (S916), and the 1900 census says married 26 years (S972). Prissila is probably P. P. and Palistine (S917), but no record read gives both names. His own pension file, no. 9421, has not been read.
- S9861860 U.S. census — Grayson County, Texas, post office Sherman, page 8, 7 June 1860, dwelling 50. Ancestry record 35313138. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Probable A. J. Pardon, 43, farmer, born Kentucky, and Catherine, 43, born Kentucky, with M., 18, John, 12, and Sarah E., 9, born Kentucky, and W. J., 6, and Silvester, 2, born Texas. In the same dwelling: David A. Seaton, 25, born Missouri, and America A., 21, born Kentucky, with John A., 4, and M. E., 2. M., 18, fits Manuel, 8, and America A., 21, fits America, 12, in Jackson Parton's 1850 Whitley County household (S844); the spelling Pardon is also on China's grandson's 1939 certificate (S780). The parents' ages rose only six years between the two censuses, and “A. J.” is not expanded on any record read. The Texas births of W. J. and Silvester place the move from Kentucky about 1851–54. Also indexed as Ancestry record 35313136 (the same image).
- S1001Texas death certificate, registered no. 4402 — W. M. Walton, Roby, Fisher County, 2 February 1920. Ancestry record 40055478. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed W. M. Walton died at Roby, Fisher County, on 2 February 1920, aged 77 years 11 months, born 22 February 1842 in Missouri, married, farming; father born Tennessee; buried at Roby the same day. The surname is written Walton. The informant's name is hard to read (J. K. Wells?). The 1842 year agrees with his 1870 age; Find a Grave's 1844 does not.
- S10021850 United States Federal Census — San Augustine County, Texas, dwelling 231 (28 September 1850). Ancestry record 1077993. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Probable John Voshary, 40, born Mi[ssissippi?]; Mary, 26, born Tennessee; Nancy, 12; Anthony, 8; Susan, 5; Greenbury, 3; and John, 2 months; the children born Texas. 1850 states no relationships. Mary is too young to be Nancy's mother, so she may be a second wife.
- S10061840 United States Federal Census — Knox County, Kentucky (Calvin Hardy's division), page 6. Ancestry record 1274505. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026.
