How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: CONFIRMED as Emma Stein Ladusch's father — confirmed 28 September 2026. The 1880 census of Austin County, which states relationships and was read from the image, lists
Emma, 5, as the daughter of Henry Stein, 32, a farmer born Saxe-Weimar
S919, and her own death certificate names her father Henry Stein. Added 24 September 2026 as Probable; Emma Stein Ladusch's Texas death certificate no. 20521 (30 March 1952, Austin)
S326, read from the image, her husband Otto Ladusch informant, names her father as Henry Stein, born Germany, and her mother as Amanda “Emmerd” (the reading is uncertain), born England. The 1900 census gives both her parents' birthplace as Germany, so the mother's birthplace is unsettled and no surname is entered for her
Life in the order the records give it
Birth1846
Born in Germany. The family account on the Ladusch–Stein line gives 23 March 1846, Saxe-Weimar – 13 November 1909, Austin County. The death date and county are now confirmed by a county report of death
S613; the birth date is not yet confirmed
Death1909
🆕 The Austin County report of death records a
Henry Stein, German-born, 62, who died
near New Ulm on
13 November 1909 S613. The date and county match the family account. The report names no wife or children, so it confirms the death and does not prove that he was Emma's father. added 26 September 2026.
Record1871
🆕 A Lutheran baptism register at New Ulm records a son,
Johann Wilhelm Dietrich, born 8 October 1871, to
Heinrich Stein, from the district of
Eisenach, and
Maria geb. Emmert, of New Ulm
S633. Eisenach lay in Saxe-Weimar, where the family account says Henry was born, and Emmert is the name behind the family account's “Emmett” and the 1952 certificate's “Emmerd”. The register was written at the time. It is about a different child, though, so it still does not prove that he was Emma's father. added 26 September 2026.
Census1900
🆕 A candidate household: the 1900 census of Austin County, Precinct 5, has a
Henry Stein, born March 1848, a farmer, with a second wife, Pauline, married 8 years, and Adolf,
Bertha, Hedwig, Nora and Ottilie
S771 Probable confirm or correct →. A Bertha and a Heinrich Stein stood sponsor together at Frieda Ladusch's 1896 baptism. What is weak: this census gives his birthplace as
Texas, not Germany, and does not name Emma, who had married by then. The 1880 Austin County census has now been read: it confirms him as Emma's father, and its Adolph, 2, and Bertha, 7 months, fit the Adolf and Bertha of this 1900 household
S919; the Texas birthplace is still the weak point. added 26 September 2026.
Census1880
🆕 On 23 June 1880 the census found him in Justice Precinct 5, Austin County:
Henry Stein, 32, farmer, born Saxe-Weimar;
Mary, his wife, 35, born Texas; William, 8; Anna, 6;
Emma, 5; Adolph, 2; Bertha, 7 months; and his widowed father
Dietrick Stein, 68, born Saxe-Weimar
Confirmed S919. William, 8, is the Johann Wilhelm Dietrich baptised in 1871
S633. This is the test his card was waiting for, and it confirms him as Emma's father. His wife here, Mary, born Texas, fits the register's Maria geb. Emmert of New Ulm better than the certificate's Amanda, born England. added 28 September 2026.

- S326Texas death certificate no. 20521 — Emma Stein Ladusch, 1952. Texas, U.S., Death Certificates, 1903–1982 (Ancestry collection 2272, record 21537089). Read from the image. Born 21 March 1875, Texas; died 30 March 1952, Austin; father Henry Stein; informant Otto Ladusch, husband; buried Oakwood Cemetery.
- S613Austin County, Texas, Report of Death to the County Clerk, no. 495 — Henry Stein, 13 November 1909. Ancestry record 24029368. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Henry Stein, white, male, 62, nativity German, a citizen; died 13 November 1909 about 6 p.m. near New Ulm, where he lived; cause emaciation, with hemorrhage of the stomach for 1 month 3 days; signed R. J. Schmid, physician, New Ulm, 17 November 1909. No parents or wife are named. The Ancestry index reads “Austin” as the city; the form is the county's. The age is one year off the family account's 23 March 1846.
- S633Evangelical Lutheran baptism register, New Ulm, Austin County, Texas, 1871, entry 74. Ancestry record 150386361. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Johann Wilhelm Dietrich, born at New Ulm 8 October 1871, baptised 10 December 1871; parents Heinrich Stein, from Sege(?), district of Eisenach, and Maria geb. Emmert, of New Ulm, Texas; sponsors Dietrich Stein, Johann Michael Fodor(?) and Maria Bader(?). The home village is hard to read; Eisenach and Emmert are clear. The register calls the mother Maria, not Amanda.
- S7711900 United States Federal Census, Austin County, Texas, Precinct 5, ED 9, sheet 14A: household of Henry Stein. Ancestry record 70135763. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, September 2026. Probable Henry Stein, born March 1848, Texas, farmer; his wife Pauline, married 8 years, no children; Adolf, Bertha, Hedwig, Nora and Ottilie Stein. A candidate household only. A Bertha Stein and a Heinrich Stein stood sponsor together at Frieda Ladusch's 1896 baptism, and Pauline is a second wife, which fits Emma having a different mother. But this census gives his birthplace as Texas, where the 1952 certificate and the death report say Germany, and it does not name Emma, who had married by 1900.
- S9191880 U.S. census, Justice Precinct 5, Austin County, Texas, SD 5, ED 7, p. 50, dwelling 413, family 417: Henry Stein household. Ancestry record 40319705. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Enumerated 23 June 1880: Henry Stein, 32, farmer, born Saxe-Weimar; Mary, wife, 35, keeping house, born Texas; William, son, 8; Anna, daughter, 6; Emma, daughter, 5; Adolph, son, 2; Bertha, daughter, 7 months; John, 13, working on the farm (his relationship is overwritten); Dietrick, father, 68, widowed, born Saxe-Weimar. The census states relationships. Emma, 5, fits Emma Stein Ladusch, born 21 March 1875; William, 8, fits the Johann Wilhelm Dietrich baptised at New Ulm in 1871 (S633). Collection: 1880 United States Federal Census.
