Life in the order the records give it

Birth1870
Born and died: not on any record read. The family tree's “Gjori Olsdatter Lono”, born 22 January 1870, died 27 November 1955, has no source and is not published here as fact
Census1903
FamilySearch also has Gertie's 1903 baptism in Deuel County with her mother as “Julie” S820, and the 1910 census index for Brandt, Deuel County, with Julia and Mons Selland and their daughter Selma S821
Census1920
🆕 The censuses of 1920 and 1930 give her arrival as 1889, the year Mons left Røldal, and in 1920 her naturalization as 1914 Confirmed S989S990. In 1930 she was 60 and had first married at 30 S990; in 1940 she was 70 S991; and she was living in April 1950, 80, on the Brandt Township farm with Mons and their son Oscar S992. Her ages across the censuses point to a birth about 1870. The children now known from the censuses are Ida C., Andrew, Selma (Gertie), Tilda, Oscar, George and Myrtle S989S952. added 29 September 2026

Names1870
Her maiden name, Lone Probable confirm or correct →: the South Dakota birth index on FamilySearch names Gertie's mother Julia Lone S819. What is weak: that is an index row; no register image read gives the name. A “Gyri …sdatter Lone”, born 1870, left Røldal in the same 1889 party as Mons, and has not been shown to be her

Ancestry record 7608849. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, September 2026. Confirmed Groom Benjamin Leroy Peters, parents “Benj. Peters & Edna”; bride Gertie Selma Selland, parents “M. T. Selland & Julia”; witnesses Hazel Peters, Tillie Selland and Mildred Peters. Ages and birthplaces left blank. The church's own register, written at the wedding, and the same couple and date as the state return S71. Ancestry indexes the bride's father as “W T Selland”; on the image it is the scribe's capital M, the same letter that opens “May” and “Mildred” on the page. The church name (Highland Lutheran, Brandt) is Ancestry's catalogue entry, not on the page, and the foot of the entry is cut off in the filming.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear by name and relationship, with the year only: no full date of birth and no home town on any page that search engines index, and a living person’s own page is kept out of search engines. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
