How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. The 1870 census of Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, read from the image, has a two-person household:
Marancy Warner, 46, keeping house, born New York, and
Clifford, 19, farm labourer, born Illinois
S828. What is weak: the 1870 census has no relationship column, and Clifford's own 1880 entry gives his mother's birthplace as
Massachusetts, not New York
S824. Her maiden name “Alexander” rests on an Illinois marriage index reading “Muraney Elexander”
S825, which has not been read, and on her son Charles’s 1878 marriage record
S1138, where it is his statement, not hers
Evidence: The 1870 census of Winslow, Illinois has a two-person household of Marancy Warner, 46, born New York, and Clifford, 19, born Illinois; she was in John Warner's household at Winslow in 1850. Weak or missing: The 1870 census has no relationship column; Clifford's 1880 entry gives his mother's birthplace as Massachusetts, not New York; the maiden name Alexander rests on an unread index ('Muraney Elexander') and on her son Charles's statement in his 1878 marriage record, and her birth and death dates are unsourced; the 1900 Knox County 'Marancy Ballet(?)', mother-in-law of the widow Mary Warner, has a hard-to-read surname and 'mother of 1 child'. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Life in the order the records give it
Census1850
In 1850 “Marany” is in John Warner's household at Winslow with Araminta, 7, John, 5, and Frederick, 3
S826; John's Find a Grave memorial names his wife as Marancy
S827Birth1824
Born about
1824 in New York (46 in July 1870)
S828. The family tree's birth on 27 February 1824 at Henderson, Jefferson County, New York, and death on 11 June 1901 at Creighton, Knox County, Nebraska, are not on any record read; a 1900 “Marancy Ballet” may be another woman
Death1900
🆕 Perhaps her in 1900:
Marancy Ballet(?), 76, born February 1824 in New York, father born New York, mother born Connecticut, widowed, was the
mother-in-law of the widow
Mary Warner, 49, on Mary’s farm in Miller Township, Knox County, Nebraska, with Mary’s four daughters, whose father was born in Illinois
Probable confirm or correct → S1063. Evidence: the rare name, a birth in February 1824 that fits the family tree’s 27 February 1824 and her age of 46 in 1870, and Knox County, where the tree puts her death in 1901. Weak: the surname is hard to read, which of her sons was Mary’s husband is not stated, and “mother of 1 child” does not fit four children in 1850 and 1870. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Children1878
🆕 Her son
Charles Warner, 25, born in Illinois, married Mary E. Maurer at Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska, on 26 November 1878; the marriage record gives his parents as John Warner and
Marency Alexander Confirmed S1138. It is the first record read from the image that gives her maiden name.
Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it
Probable
🆕 Probably her in 1880:
Marancy Warner, “Mother”, 57, a widow born New York, in the household of John Ladd and his wife
Mintie, 35, born Illinois, in Sheridan Precinct, Washington County, Nebraska
Probable confirm or correct → S1018. Evidence: her rare name, an age that fits 46 in 1870
S828, and a daughter of the right age: Araminta was 7 in the 1850 Winslow household
S826. Weak: the census gives Mintie no maiden name. It puts her mother's birth in Massachusetts and her own in New York. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

- S8241880 U.S. Federal Census — Clifford Warner household, Cedar Precinct, Boone County, Nebraska, supervisor's district 2, enumeration district 126, p. 15, dwelling 105, family 111, enumerated 9 June 1880. Ancestry collection 6742, record 48152479 (image 4242184-00402). Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Clifford Warner, 28, farmer, born Illinois, father born New York, mother born Massachusetts; Ella, wife, 22, keeping house, born Illinois, parents born Pennsylvania; Maud, daughter, 1 or 2, born Nebraska, parents born Illinois. The census gives Ella's relationship to Clifford, not to Maud. FamilySearch indexes the same page (ark:/61903/1:1:M8Y7-1WJ), so it is not independent. Collection: 1880 United States Federal Census.
- S825Illinois compiled marriage index — John Warner and Muraney Elexander, Stephenson County, 17 May 1841. Ancestry index card; no image. Probable John Warner to Muraney Elexander, 17 May 1841, Stephenson County, Illinois. An index card only; the register has not been read. “Muraney Elexander” may be Marancy Warner, but it has been flagged as possibly another woman.
- S8261850 U.S. Federal Census — John Warner household, Town of Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, p. 308, family 930, enumerated 2 October 1850. Ancestry collection 8054, record 16610086 (image 4181046_00232). Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Clifford, born about 1851, is not yet in the household. Collection: 1850 United States Federal Census.
- S827Find a Grave memorial 26358623 — John Warner, Rock Lily Cemetery, Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois. Ancestry index card of the memorial. Probable John Warner, 13 November 1816 – 5 January 1858; spouse Marancy; children Araminta Ladd, John and Charles A. A memorial, supporting only; the stone itself has not been seen. Clifford is not in its list of children.
- S8281870 U.S. Federal Census — Marancy Warner household, Township of Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, p. 10, dwelling 69, family 80, enumerated 20 July 1870. Ancestry collection 7163, record 17425800 (image 4263241_00797). Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Marancy Warner, 46, keeping house, real estate $500, personal estate $100, born New York; Clifford, 19, farm labourer, born Illinois. A two-person household. The 1870 census has no relationship column. Collection: 1870 United States Federal Census.
- S10181880 United States Federal Census — Sheridan Precinct, Washington County, Nebraska, enumeration district 85, page 13 (1 June 1880), dwelling 8. Ancestry record 48255727. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Probable John Ladd, 39, born Pennsylvania; Mintie, 35, born Illinois, parents born New York; W. John, 6; Cate, 5; and Marancy Warner, “Mother”, 57, widowed, born New York, her father born New York and her mother born Massachusetts. Read from the image.
- S10631900 United States Federal Census — Miller Township, Knox County, Nebraska, S.D. 3, E.D. 113, sheet 3A, dwelling 46. Ancestry record 32766747. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Probable 14 June 1900: Mary Warner, head, 49, widowed, married 21 years, 5 children born, 4 living, born Pennsylvania, farmer, owns her farm; daughters Laura, 20, and Alta, 18, school teachers, Edna, 17, and Sybil, 13, born Nebraska, their father born Illinois; and Marancy Ballet(?), mother-in-law, born February 1824, 76, widowed, mother of 1 child, 1 living, born New York, father born New York, mother born Connecticut. The surname reads Ballet but is not certain. Mary’s late husband, the son who makes Marancy her mother-in-law, is not named on the page, and “1 child born” does not fit a mother of Araminta, John, Frederick and Clifford.
- S1138Dodge County, Nebraska, Marriage Record, p. 136, no. 136 — Charles Warner and Mary E. Maurer (26 November 1878). Ancestry record 1200153287. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed Licence before the county judge, 26 November 1878: Charles Warner, 25, white, born Illinois, father John, mother’s maiden name Marency Alexander; Mary E. Maurer, 23, born Pennsylvania, father Daniel. Married at Fremont the same day by W. H. Ely, county judge. The residences and the bride’s mother’s surname (possibly Brownlee) are hard to read. The same image is filed under Ancestry record 1050153287.
