Earl's grandfather joins the research. Uncle David sends photographs of four pedigree sheets
Robert William Coffman filled in on 1936 Genealogical Society of Utah forms
S103. Two pencilled boxes on one of them —
PETER H MARTIN · Nov 4, 1793 and
JANE BELL — open
a new generation on the Martin line:
Peter Hines Martin, 4 Nov 1793 – 4 July 1849, Gallatin, Sumner Co., Tennessee
S105, married
Jane Bell on 2 July 1818
S106. A second breadcrumb,
"m. 5 Mar 1799", finds the Shenandoah County bond of
12 February 1799 S104. ⚠️
The day's best document argues against the family chart: that bond names Samuel Coffman's father as
"Geo.", where the chart says Martin — so the generation above Samuel stays
Unsupported as stated and is now contested as well as unproven. Two claimed readings of the same sheets are
rejected the same day, after re-reading every disputed glyph against a known instance of the same character in the same hand. One had misread the Timberman box's middle name and put his death seventy years late, which would have shifted a whole generation; the sheet in fact reads
JAMES HARRIS TIMBERMAN, d. Jan 1919, matching the Ohio death certificate exactly
S79, and
this page was already right. The other invented a surname for Joseph Martin's wife; the sheet reads
NANCY CHENAULT in block capitals, agreeing with the three sources already here.
Mary Funkhouser and the compiler's own hedge
"Tate (?)" are searched and recorded as
